Alicante Guide
Alicante is a fabulous city that offers something different to traditional ex-pat locations. A cosmopolitan area with residents from Spain, the UK and all over the world, it offers a buzzing city culture with the benefits of being by the seaside.
The long “Postiguet" beach is overlooked by the stunning St Nicholas castle and is just a short walk from the city centre. The beach itself is immaculately maintained and well serviced by beach bars, sun bed services, watersports and during the summer, a pop-up waterpark in the ocean. The marina sits adjacent to the sandy beach and is home to some simply stunning yachts, a wonderful sight as you walk along the promenade as long as you can contain your envy!
The city itself offers everything you would expect from a busy town. Alicante has a wonderful theatre that presents excellent performances year round from operas to musical theatre, live music, concert orchestras and much more. There is an excellent nightlife scene with everything from the traditional tapas bars that line the cobbled streets of the old town to cocktail bars, live music venues, British pubs and a late night area by the port that includes the stunning Marmarela nightclub, an open air venue with several different bars and areas offering different music and atmospheres.
Alicante offers a culinary experience as good as anywhere in the world. Whatever the budget, you will find a range of excellent restaurants from affordable venues offering set menus along the promenade to high end venues such as El Portal where fine dining is the order of the day. It would take an age to experience every restaurant with lovely little spots found at every corner you turn.
For the golfers concerned that there won´t be any courses in a big city, fear not. The Seve Ballesteros designed Alicante golf sits just outside the city and is an excellent venue. Within 10 minutes, you also have El Plantio and Bonalba which offer good tests while the excellent Villaita resort is only 20 minutes away on the motorway. Alicante is an extremely well connected city and lies just 10 minutes from the Alicante international airport by car. The high speed train system allows you to arrive in Madrid in just 1 hour and 50 minutes while the fast route to Barcelona is nearing completion.
